Environmental Noise
Phoenix Noise & Vibration addresses environmental noise issues of planned or existing facilities. Whether it is noise from air-conditioning equipment, construction, loading docks, emergency generators, or shooting ranges, environmental noise can impact people in proximity to these activities. Many municipalities have established standards to limit such noise, many do not. We fully understand the terminology of such standards and can apply them to the client’s individual project. In cases where standards are not specifically stated, recommendations for limitations can be provided by our engineers.
Addressing environmental noise in the design phase of a proposed project yields the greatest benefit. Sound power data from equipment manufacturers can be analyzed to determine whether or not proposed noise levels will meet design standards. In the event of noise from currently operating equipment, we can conduct on-site measurements to determine current noise levels of specific equipment. In either case, noise mitigation features can be designed to bring equipment into compliance. Common types of sources analyzed include excavation equipment, pile drivers, outdoor HVAC, construction equipment, and shooting ranges.
Phoenix Noise & Vibration uses CadnaA, a noise propagation model, to computer model a site and its surroundings. This three-dimensional model accounts for the noise source as well as surrounding topography and building structures to determine the impact upon neighboring properties. This model can be used to delineate noise contours which indicate the extent of impact. When necessary, CadnaA can be used to design noise mitigating features such as sound walls and earthen berms.
"Phoenix Noise & Vibration's input, effort and presence throughout our special exception process was a tremendous benefit to Carmuese Lime & Stone. They provide timely, accurate analysis and professional presentations that were structured to the needs of our case. We greatly appreciate their contribution."
